Blog » Household Favourites - Part 1

Our new Household Favourites meat box was launched at the start of January 2016, so here are few of the things we've been cooking so far. More to follow!

1 x 500g lean beef mince - Chilli Con Carne

The children had tea at Preschool, meaning we could have something spicy for our tea! A favourite of ours, Chilli Con Carne is a great winter warmer on cold blustery nights.

Brown the mince, add chopped onion, 1 can of chopped tomatoes, 1 can of red kidney beans in chilli sauce and hot chilli powder to taste. Leave to simmer for 40 minutes and then cook your rice. Serves 4 (or 2 with 2 portions of leftovers for the next day).

What I love: Although it takes an hour to cook - once the meat is browned and the other ingredients added, you can just leave it to simmer until you need to cook the rice. In that time I can get the children bathed and put to bed after a busy day at preschool, before my husband comes in for tea.

1kg belly of pork joint - Midweek Roast

We all love roast dinners so much that one a week just isn't enough. On a work day, I put the meat in the oven before leaving the house and programme in the cooking time so that when I get home, it's just the vegetables to cook while the meat rests.

Roast belly of pork, with potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and gravy.

What I love: It's great to come home to a house smelling of cooked food, and programming the oven to cook whilst you're out means it's only the veg to prep and cook once your home, so you can enjoy a roast dinner any night of the week. The belly of pork was absolutely delicious with everyone asking when we could have it again. A real treat midweek.

1 x 500g lean beef mince - Spaghetti Bolognese

Our family loves Bolognese and the children get to pick which pasta shapes they want while we are out shopping. It's a great quick and easy meal for hectic evenings. And if they are picky eaters who don't like the bits in the sauce, Dolmio do a smooth sauce to solve the problem.

What I love: A really wholesome meal at the end of a busy day. We serve with grated cheese and garlic bread and let the children help themselves to as much as they want.
